Krushchev and Elvis are the men of the year 1956. In the above article, Elvis was considered for the Broadway show L'il Abner. I could kind of see it, if Elvis wanted to destroy his career playing a hillbilly. That could wait until the film Kissin' Cousins.
Early Elvis only had one real scandal, apart from his music. A gas station manager started a fight with him. Elvis ended it, but ended up in court. The judge properly dismissed the charge against Elvis and punished the manager. The net result though was that Elvis became a prisoner of his own fame and couldn't go around as freely as he could before.
