Country Music Magazines: Country Guitar, Song, and Spectacular

This was a more technical magazine.  The interview with Dwight Yoakam was fairly promotional.  The interview with his writing partner and lead guitarist, Pete Anderson, may have been longer and was more in depth about the music.

This magazine contains the sheet music for several songs and notes on how to play them.  I'm reluctant to post them.  They're pretty long to scan and I don't want to mess with music copyrights.

This magazine had lyrics for several songs.

How about this?  Here's Barbara Mandrell and Reba McEntire playing basketball against each other.

Here's another painful picture of Toby Keith.

Here's a fairly classy picture of Vince Gill.

Lastly, here's a cute picture of Suzy Bogguss.

Country Music Magazines: Country Music May 93 and Country's Hot Shots

Mom had two copies of this magazine in her stack of Country music magazines.  I bought one of them for her for Mother's Day.  Dad must have bought the other.  We obviously didn't coordinate well.  Little wonder we picked it up, it featured her favorite, Dwight Yoakam, on the cover.

There are several interviews with DY in these magazines.  He was promoting his new album and some movie projects at the time, so he was all over the magazine rack for a couple of years.  Frankly, nothing was said that you probably need to read.  (I say that even as a fan myself.)  It was a bit depressing seeing mostly the same people being interviewed and saying the same things over-and-over again in this stack of magazines.  The marketing business is a bit nauseating.

Once again, I can't resist scanning Minnie Pearl.  They used to make collector's plates out of everything.  Do they still make collector's plates?

Trisha Yearwood looks pretty good here in this ad.  She would later go on to be Mrs. Garth Brooks.

Here's another one with Billy Ray Cyrus.  He was really hot (media-wise) at the time.  That hair style is glamorous, but hasn't aged well.

There's those pants that made the women scream.

Here's a nice long-haired picture of Martina McBride.

Country Music Magazines: People Extra Fall 94 Country Stars

Check out Alan Jackson's spread in Tennessee.

Another picture of Emmylou Harris.  She can even make that dress with those boots look good.

Here's the near ageless Tanya Tucker.  I remember her from the 70's.

Hey, its the Mandrell sisters.  I used to love their variety show in the early 80's.

Country Music Magazines: Country's Hottest Hunks

Never let it be said, I did not service the hot, smoldering, needs of female blog readers.  My mom also liked Billy Ray Cyrus.  My dad was somewhat appalled.  Achy Breaky Heart didn't endear itself to everybody.  Billy Ray's image was further degraded by Hannah Montana and his daughter, Miley's, decent into degeneracy.  However, I think his part in Old Town Road may have redeemed him.

I've been fascinated by these older pictures of Toby Keith, since I see him regularly in commercials.  He's gotten better with age.

Name that rear!  I can't believe women used to objectify men like this.

Here's the classic "hunks" of Country.

Hey, that's what Garth Brooks like without his hat.

Country Music Magazines: New Country Music Fall 93

In spite of this magazine's title, it does homage the classics.  Here's a picture of Hank Williams and his wife.

Here's another picture of Martina McBride.  I was told by a Country fan that they're more familiar with her having longer hair.

Here's a gallery of classic covers.  I did not know that Willie Nelson and Roger Miller made an album together.

I'm loving that Loretta Lynn album name-Your Squaw is on the Warpath.  And there's another classic, Harper Valley P.T.A.

Lastly, here's our first scan of Dwight Yoakam.  He's in a CMT ad here.

Country Music Magazines: Country America-Country '95 Yearbook Part 2

Part 1

While you're in Nashville, stalking your favorite Country stars, here's an advertising section for things to do in town before you end up in jail.

I couldn't resist putting in another picture of Minnie Pearl, in this case, a statue of her.  (She's at the top, not the one at the bottom.)

Check out the atrium of the Opryland Hotel.

Country Music Magazines: Country America-Country '95 Yearbook Part 1

This magazine tells you how to stalk your favorite Country stars.  Kinda.

I had to thumb past this picture several times, before I suddenly recognized Larry "Bud" Melman from Late Night With David Letterman.  (That was his character's name on the show.  The actor's actual name is in the caption.)

Umm . . . Wow.  This was an article on sexy stars in Country music.  I'm admittedly not familiar with their music, but Emmylou Harris and Martina McBride sure looked good in the 90's.  In the corner is the producer who compiled the list.  The editors were correct in flirting with her.

There were also pictures of guys.  Here's one of an oiled and muscled Randy Travis, which is totally at odds with how I remembered him.

Here's a style article on how some Country stars have changed their looks-mostly for the better.  Ricky Skaggs went from a 70's businessman to an 80's one.  Radney Foster went from a hippie to a nerd.  Randy Travis turned into Arnold Schwarzenegger.

There's a whole section of addresses to contact your favorites with your insane love-turned-to-hate rantings.  I included this page because it has one of my favorite Western groups-Riders in the Sky.  I used to listen to their radio show every weekend.
