Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 51

The Spanish International Pavilion at the New York World's Fair 1964-65.  The writer was on the way to Niagara Falls after touring Detroit.  Montreal was next on the itinerary.

Keauhou Beach Hotel, Kona Coast, Hawaii.  This postcard was from a couple of neighbors, who went to Hawaii over Christmas for business according to the card.

Wichita Country Club, Wichita, Kansas.  Looks really flat.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 50

Vista House on Mt. Spokane.  This is actually a rock-faced house, not a big snow house.

I don't have an explanation for hole punches or the Kool-Aid stain on the back.  The picture is a lake in Missouri.  Maybe?

Stately Palms with Beautiful reflections in Florida.  This is a vintage postcard from 1941.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 49

M.E. Church, South Marshall, Arkansas.  This is another vintage postcard, but I can't read the postmark to see when it's from.

Niagara Falls, New York.  This one is from mom to Grandma and Grandpa after a trip out to see us in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  That doesn't explain the card, though.

Hotel Astor, Times Square, New York City.  The postmark is from 1950, but the picture looks older.  The text is barely readable on the card and unreadable scanned.  The writer was having a wonderful trip.  They were going to tour city and visit Atlantic City and Washington DC.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 48

Laguna Beach, California.  "Went to China Town yesterday."  Too bad she didn't get a postcard from there.

Cinderella Castle, Walt Disney World, Florida.  This was a good trip.  The writer went to Disney World and "Rode a roller coaster inside in total darkness!!"  Saw the Kennedy Space Center and went to a luau at the Polynesian Resort Hotel.

"Kuddly Kittens."  Who aren't going to win a Spelling Bee anytime soon.  According to the postmark, this was sent from Little Rock, Arkansas.  The writer was there with 867 girls learning about government.  "I have just about forgotten what a boy looks like.  Ha!" she writes.  I don't know anything else about this trip.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 47

This post features three vintage postcards.  This first one, an aerial view of Kanas City, Missouri, is from 1934.

There's the First National Bank of Kiefer, Oklahoma.  That looks like a secure institution.  Is that an oil well in the background?  This one is from 1908.

"A little fun with the feed boss."  This postcard is from 1912 showing an Army camp.  Note that all of these cards have a 1-cent stamp on them.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 46

Lake Estes and Spillway, Estes Park, Colorado.  Beautiful view.

The Boot Hill Special, Dodge City, Kansas.

Festival Theatre, Stratford, Ontario, Canada.  Very pretty.  The writer was going to a play later in the evening and would be on to Toronto.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 45

Manitou Cliff Dwellings in Manitou Springs, Colorado.  Mom and dad went here shortly after getting married.  Mom told Grandpa that he would have enjoyed it.  I love the picture.

Red Wing Motel, Manitou Springs, Colorado.  Another card from the trip.  Mom and dad were getting ready to go to a chuckwagon supper.

Boone County Hospital, Harrison, Arkansas.  They'll make a postcard for any place.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 44

Pensacola Beach, Florida.  Aunt Judy sent one card from the beach to Grandma and Grandpa and one to mom, which explains the different backs.  She was having a good time with a friend, but broke her little toe.  (She didn't tell her parents about her toe.  I'm inferring that they didn't want her to go on the trip.)

Dodd's Americano Beach Lodge in Daytona Beach, Florida.  Again, a pair of cards from Aunt Judy.  This time she went with her new husband, so I'm sure her folks approved.

"The big one got away."  I think this card is from mom to her brother when we all took a trip to Missouri from New Mexico.

Postcards From the Edge: Mom's Family Cards 43

Beautiful Christmas postcard.  It's actually embossed with raised features.

This one is a Christmas card from dad's boss.

From the Holiday Inn of Farmington, New Mexico.  We were visiting the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings nearby.  Dad had apparently had also been offered a job in Farmington.  Mom said she'd only move "under protest."  She liked living in Albuquerque.  However, we'd end up moving to Las Cruces in the southern end of the state anyway in short order.  She didn't like that ***either.***
