The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 17

Elvis memorabilia on sale on this page.

Oops, the police strike in Memphis happened anyway during Elvis week.

Stories about Elvis merchandise sales during the fifth anniversary remembrance of his death.

These articles are from the first anniversary.

Newspaper reader reaction to a positive review of an Elvis tell-all book is decidedly against it.

Another long article about the impact of Elvis' death.

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 16

 Big article on Graceland visit.

Mom was also a big Engelbert Humperdinck fan.  The article mentions that he picked up some Elvis fans after his death.  It also mentions Engelbert's real name is Arnold Dorsey.  I have no words to explain that name change.

Bottom right article advertises a three-hour tribute to Elvis hosted by Ann-Margret.  In the top left, Elvis' step-mom announces publishing a book about him.

Story about an Elvis Cadillac.  Elvis bought a lot of Cadillacs for people.

A police strike in Memphis ended as 100,000 Elvis fans arrive for Elvis week.  Below, a disputed "first" recording of Elvis is going to be sold.

Article about imitators engaging in plastic surgeries to look like deceased rock stars.  Need I say that this is a poor idea.

Huge article about Elvis' death a year later.

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 15

Guy from Joplin, Missouri gets plastic surgery to look like Elvis.

Now you can add a couple more panels to this cartoon, such as the human traffickers on the border sending drugs over with the illegal aliens and tax agencies making money on weed shops.

The under-articles.  I didn't know that Elvis did a show in Springfield, Missouri.

Stories about the Lisa Marie plane being sold.  It is currently back at Graceland on display.

Don't get too excited.  This is just an ad.

Articles about Elvis wanting to work with the FBI and ads for an Elvis impersonator.

"The greatest portrait of Elvis?"  And Elvis was the top story in a 1977 in review book.

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 14

"Elvis rakes in millions for hucksters?"  You mean Colonel Parker?  Also, "Estate worth millions."  No kidding.

Priscilla says "Elvis was on self-destruct," while another articles says, Priscilla's affair was what drove Elvis into drug addiction.  There's list of dead rock celebrities.  But the real story on this page is the 7ft birthday cake.

Thousands of fans gather in Memphis for Elvis' birthday, while his former girlfriend sues to get her home mortgage paid.

Article about Priscilla's book.  I'm not sure if mom actually read that book.

Elvis estate outdraws the Sex Pistols' show in Memphis.   "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"  No, that wax pack from the 70's is empty.  Those are probably the cards posted earlier.  (I don't remember where.  I'm not going to go look.)

Okay, that guy should get his money back.  How come almost all Elvis impersonators are 70's Elvis?  How about 50's Elvis?  Or 60's movie Elvis?

Speaking of Elvis through the decades, I like these pewter figures.  I'd use them as commanders in Warhammer 40k Chaos Marine army.  (Just kidding.  I'm not rich enough to play W40k nor have the patience or time to paint the figures.)

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 13

The top story is about the traveling Elvis collection.

The bottom clip is an ad for Elvis' Louisiana Hayride appearances.  Here they bring up his old nickname, "The Country Cat."

A couple of the clips are still debating whether or not there were drugs in Elvis' system at his death.

Story about Lisa Marie inheriting the Elvis estate.

Psychoanalysis of Elvis' estate.  They didn't think much of his tastes.

This page repeats the above page mostly.

This page has a lot.  At the top, it talks about an Elvis musical in London.  Next, there's an article about Elvis bodyguard, Red West, being on Black Sheep Squadron.  That was one of my favorite shows as a kid.  Mom hated West and the other Elvis cronies who'd written a book about his drug use.  She must have been being nice putting up with me watching the show.

These are later articles.  Priscilla was on Dallas at the time.

Articles underneath about Elvis' estate and anniversary events.

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 12

An article on the merchandising of Elvis, as if that wasn't the story of his entire career while alive.

Story about Elvis' jeweler on the top right.

There in the center is a recipe for Elves Cookies.  I wonder if mom thought that said, "Elvis Cookies."  I did the first couple of times I looked at this page.

Bad review of the movie Top Secret, but Val Kilmer gets props for his Elvis impression.

Articles about a $40k painting from an Elvis auction.

The Elvis Collection: 70's Scrapbook 11

Elvis' burial arrangements.

Story on the first of many, many remastering and reissuing of Elvis albums.

More on Elvis' burial.

Commentary on Elvis' popularity.  I'm not convinced.

Stories of fans visiting Elvis' grave.

The article on the bottom left details Elvis' meeting with President Nixon.

Another unconvincing commentary on the significance of Elvis.
