Sketch Dump: Flash Girls 2

Continuing with more Alex Raymond Flash Gordon sketches.  Warning: Flash Gordon will not appear.  It'll just be the girls. 

Mostly Dale Arden and some Mongo princesses and queens.

Raymond made his women look glamorous from the rear without even emphasizing their booties.

 

The one on the left I did in black pen.  The one on the right was engaged in some bondage and torture.  40's comic strips were awesome.

There's Dale on the left and the jungle queen on the right.  Maybe I should be naming these characters, but I don't have my books with me while I'm doing this post.

This was the Mongo undersea queen.  

Sketch Dump: Flash Girls 1

Besides all of the Archie and Sojourn sketches, I'm shocked by all of the Alex Raymond Flash Gordon sketches I did.  When I start drawing something, I keep going with it.  Many of these sketches were on copy paper.  I must have run out sketch paper and decided not to buy any more for a while.  Unfortunately, many of them were too light.  I had to draw over them to make them darker before scanning.  

There's a Mongo princess or queen I think to the left and Dale Arden to the right.  Awesome 40's hair.

Raymond took any opportunity to show some skin.  Ugh, some of these are terrible sketches by me.

I'm not sure who the girl was on the left.  Not from Flash Gordon.  I redrew part of that one before scanning.  On the right, is another Mongo queen.  Dale is beautiful, but she sure had a lot of competition for Flash on Mongo.

Sketch Dump: Models 3

This first sketch took up a whole page.  I want to say this was somebody from work.  I photocopied and inked the one on the left.  Again, I was drawing in a different style.  I don't remember why I started drawing like this or why I stopped.

Not the greatest sketches here, but kind of hot anyway.

Wow!  This is a page from my original first sketchbook.  That's why it's kind of yellow and there's some heavy erasing on it.  There's drawings of swimsuit models along with a sketch of Nausicaa.  I had a manga issue of that.  

Sketch Dump: Models 2

The first one here is an unfinished charcoal drawing.  I don't know why I didn't finish it at the time.  Afterward, there was no way I could finish it, since I don't know who I was drawing.   

I think this was a sketch of a Steve Hanks painting.  I did this in black ink.

The color part of this is a sketch of a swimsuit model.  There used to be swimsuit magazines in the 80's that sort of carpetbagged off of the SI one.  I bought them regularly and found one legitimate use for them.  (Kind of sorry I don't still have them.)  I photocopied the original and inked and colored it.  The other two sketches were taped to it.  The top one is a sketch of singer Rachel Stevens.  She wasn't topless in the original picture.  (Whew!  That's too hot to think about.)  

I think this is a sketch of a comic book artist taking a selfie.  

This is so cute.  If only I knew who it was.

Sketch Dump: Models 1

I'm just dumping all the sketches of women I can't identify as "models."  Honestly, it's killing me that I can't remember where I saw these women.

This one is a black ink drawing.

Argh!  I know I know who this is.  It's been awhile since I drew it.

Sketches: Paintings

I really liked Steve Hanks' photo realistic paintings in the 90's.  I actually bought two prints (one signed) and a large art book of his.  

Though I was only sketching, I drew a bunch from the book.  I had a completely different drawing style at the time.  These sketches take up the whole page.  I'll post some more in this style in the future. 

These next three are from Al Buell paintings.

Lastly, some sketches based on Frank Godwin's artwork.  He did some comic strip work, along with other artwork.  He was a tremendous illustrator.  

Sketch Dump: Comics

I called this "comics," but it's only mostly comics.  This first drawing was from the art of The Legend of the Five Rings.  Never played it.  Have no idea what it's about.  Just liked the art.  

Here's another sketch of Cassidy from Sojourn.  I wonder if I've finally found all of my sketches from that comic.  

This was from a fan painting of Jasmine from Aladdin.  

The top left sketch is Night Girl from the Legion of Superheroes (technically, the Legion of Substitute Heroes).  She's gotten some good attention from time to time for such a minor character.  She's always been drawn hot.  Obviously that's Supergirl below her.  It took me a while to identify the other sketch.  It's a bad drawing of actress Lexa Doig.

    

I don't know about the girl in the hat, but the other drawings are a girl from Nonplayer.  Ah, Nonplayer.  It has one of the most tortured publishing histories in comics.  Everyone saw the sample art and very intriguing premise and got excited.  It got me to go to Hastings (R.I.P.) to look for the first issue when it came out.  (That was unsuccessful.)  The artist got injured in an accident and didn't produce issue #2 until four years later.  That's it to this point.  Maybe the movie deal for the story will produce something someday.  It'll come out in a double bill with the live action Robotech movie.     

   

Well, now this wasn't even inspired by somebody else's art.  This is from a photo of an artist, Renae de Liz.  I don't actually have any of her art.  She was a talented artist on Archie's Sonic series, but I never bought it.  I always puzzled that the typical artwork in Sonic was usually better than any contemporary Archie artwork.  I think she was mentioned on an Archie fan forum and that's how I ran into her picture.  She's done some great work on a Peter Pan comic adaption, along with Wonder Woman and Amethyst comics.  Unfortunately, I've never seen any of her books in a store to buy them.  I don't know who the other sketch is of.
