Country Music Magazines: Country Weekly May 10-95 Part 2

Continued from Part 1.

This was one of the main features in this issue.  Loretta Lynn's mansion was very antebellum on the outside.  It was a bit trailer park on the inside, which is why I didn't scan the rest.

I think I remember seeing this Garth Brooks special.  It was a big deal at the time on TV.

There's Garth with his previous wife, before he remarried to Trisha Yearwood.

Lastly, you could follow these instructions to combine your love of Country and Hip-Hop in the 90's.  Thankfully now, you can line dance using this to the tune of Old Town Road.

Country Music Magazines: Country Weekly May 10-95 Part 1

I thought this was an interesting issue, so it'll be in two parts.

I haven't heard of Linda Davis before, but she looked good in her promotional picture.

Here's short article on Martina McBride.  Those blue eyes are just hypnotic.

Red hair was in.  It looked pretty good on some of the ladies here.

I've resisted scanning any of the Dwight Yoakam interviews, which were the raison d'etre of my mom's collection, except for this one.  I actually watched this movie, Roswell.  It was okay.  Mom was horrified when Dwight took off his hat in the film and revealed his thinning hairline.  She convinced herself that he'd just shaved some of his hair off for the part.  I scanned this mostly for the somewhat embarrassing high school pictures of Dwight.

On to Part Two.

Country Music Magazines: Country Weekly Apr 11-95 and Nov 8-94

There's George Strait on the cover in the inset.  I didn't see much of him in these 90's Country music magazines.  This was a surprise because I know that women loved him around that time.

Does this article in a Country music magazine settle or inflame the argument whether the Eagles are Country or Rock?  I'm not getting in the middle of that one.  I'll just say they're good.

I remember Crook & Chase.  I just watched it to see Lorianne.  I saw her recently on something.  She's still beautiful and has that killer smile.

There's Randy Travis with his shirt on for a change.  He looks like he's a bad hair day away from having a full Afro.

This article mostly features Ashley Judd for some reason.  Given that she's the non-singing Judd, I'm not sure why.  Okay, other than she was a glamorous Hollywood actress at the time.  I still remember her two adorable guest stints on Star Trek: The Next Generation.  Now, she's a dried up, bitter old hag, but we couldn't have known that she would turn out like that.  There's another inset pic of the effervescent Lorianne Crook.  Also note, mom had boxed the mention of Dwight Yoakam in the text.

This was a regular feature in the magazine.  Somebody has to teach people those line dancing steps.

Country Music Magazines: Country Weekly May 2-95

This weekly magazine produced some fairly impressive features.  This one was on the Grand Ole Opry.  Again, sorry that the magazine didn't fit in my scanner well.

Here's an article about a traveling Country music show that performed in Wal-Mart parking lots.  That seems like a decent idea.  I remember a large strip mall I used to live near in El Paso in the 80's used to occasionally host Country concerts.

Country music nerd is a unique marketing niche.

Country Music Magazines: Country Weekly Sept 19-95

Mom had several issues of this weekly magazine.  How about that?  There used to be a weekly Country music magazine.  Country music fans are hardcore.  They were unfortunately in a small tabloid format and didn't scan particularly well on the scanner I was using.  Sorry about that.

There's a good picture of Tim McGraw, son of former Major Leaguer, Tug McGraw.  I remember watching his old man pitch in grade school.  Where does the the time go?

Here's another terrible picture of Toby Keith.  I owe this guy an apology for posting these.

Randy Travis and his abs.

Here's a young and fresh Faith Hill.

Shania Twain had just hit super stardom at this point, but didn't look it.

A secret to success for women: use three names for your name all the time.  There also has to be some alteration.

I'm amazed by these pictures of Tanya Tucker.  I'm not sure how old she was here, but she looked good.  These two pages were next to each in the magazine.

Terri Clark didn't make the top 50 artists listed in this magazine, but she looked good in her ad.

Here's an ad for TNN.

Country Music Magazines: Modern Screen's Modern Country

Here's another lyric magazine that was trying to look like a gossip rag.

It had a cool pinup of Dwight Yoakam.

This may be a short interview, but its well worth your time.  Kinky Friedman had some sort relationship to Dwight, so mom was interested in him a bit.  This guy is a definite character and this is not your standard celebrity interview.

Great ad.
