Sketch Dump: Anime and Starstruck

Here's Hitomi from Appleseed.  Looks wise, she's my favorite character from the series.  These first three are from the movie Ex Machina.  Mixed in is a cosplayer from an Elfquest fan movie.        

This an older drawing.  The Hitomi here from the Manga, along with an unidentified girl.

We have a nude on the left and three little drawings that were cut out and taped on to the page.  That's Hitomi from the manga again in the lower right hand corner.  There's Yoko from Xenon next to her.  I don't know who the one at the top is.    

The girl at the top is from Iczer-1.  I think she's the villain.  Once again, another unidentified girl on the bottom.

   

I know these don't thematically fit, but these are some old sketches of Galatia 9 from Starstruck.  I've referred to the comic as being "frustratingly beautiful."  The Michael Kaluta artwork was great.  The story was impenetrable.  It's a feminist Sci-Fi epic.  Nowadays, it'd probably be considered a hetro-sell out.  I inked over these a long time ago and did a terrible job, but at least they're better preserved than the old pencil drawings.  

      

Sketch Dump: Superheroes

 Okay, first up is a sidekick of sorts, Lois Lane.  This from Jim Lee's Hush.  I'm no Jim Lee.    

This girl is from the Legion of Superheroes, but I don't remember who she is.  Given my LSH knowledge, she must be fairly obscure.  Invisible Kid (II)'s sister?  

Okay, this girl, Maria Lucci, is from a comic book, but not a superhero.  I never actually read the comic, Parts Unknown.  

This is Polaris from X-Factor.  The artist in this issue had a very stylized style.  I probably wrecked this old drawing when I went back over the lines before scanning it.  

This is another old sketch I had to trace over.  That's Psylocke on top and Phantom Girl from the LSH on the bottom.

Lastly, here's a couple of Starfire along with a girl from Birds of Prey.

Sketch Dump: Superheroes

I was a big Gen 13 fan for a while.  I grabbed up any issue I found at my local comic book store.  I liked sketching Roxy (Freefall).  I don't think she was my favorite character though.

There's a couple of unidentified girls with Roxy.

There was a Magical Drama Girl Roxy mini-series that I found an issue of.

This is a poor sketch of the Supergirl, but I like the pose.

Here's two of Wonder Woman.

This was from a Steve Rude painting.  He's one of my favorite artists.  He did a few paintings of Wonder Woman, but I don't think he ever did a comic.

 

This was a cosplay picture of Zatanna.  My sketch did have legs on it, but they were out of proportion.  I'm still learning figure drawing.  The girl in the picture also reminded me of a girl a dated.

Sketch Dump: Birds of Prey

I've had a bunch of issues of Birds of Prey.  I got rid of most of them at some point.  I probably only liked them for the good girl drawings, but there were some good issues.  

I don't know who the characters are here, but the images are from BoP.  I did this on copy paper, not sketch paper.  The reason why one of the girls is missing part of her arm was because I'd folded the page in half before drawing.  

Here's a few of the Huntress.  I like this look of the character better than the original, but her origin is screwed up in this version.  

I can't identify the girl on the left.

Lastly, here's Oracle, Barbara Gordon.  She looked really cute in this issue.

Sketch Dump: Superheroes

I've been a big fan of the Teen Titans for awhile.  There have been quite a few versions.  One of the more recent ones featured a new Aquagirl that I was infatuated with.  Unfortunately, the comics were terrible.  I was pretty nuts about her to keep buying those issues.  

Jim Balent's Catwoman is, in my mind, the definitive version of the character.  The guy loved her.  He put her in the purple skintight suit with the black hip boots.  My sketch here, though, is her in a swimsuit.  I don't think I still have those issues to go back and draw her in costume.  Darn.    

I'm not a big fan of the black leather and googles look for Catwoman, but I did draw this.

Here's Domino from X-Force.  There's my character, Tilly, in the glasses.  She doesn't wear glasses.  Why did I do that?

Here's Elektra from Elektra: Assassin.  That's Tisha, Tilly's best friend, underneath.  I really should figure out a way to write that story with them.

  

Sketch Dump: Girls I've Known

The first four here are of my friend, Britney.  The first one is a Steve Hanks painting that I redid with her in it.   

I did the next two from a photograph of her.  I was doing it in that different style I used to have.

This version I did in pen in a loose, sketchy style.

This one was in charcoal.

Here's a co-worker, Davina, also in charcoal.  She was really cute (too bad we didn't get along).

I didn't meet this one in person.  This was Steph.  I think she was an online comic strip artist (maybe).  She was a friend of another comic strip artist that I wrote to a couple of times.  I sent him the sketch.  (That doesn't make sense to me now either.)  I do like the inking on this. 

Artifacts: Confederate Air Force and Lego Star Wars Poster

This is sort of a Veteran's Day post.  Actually, it's some random items that I meant to scan, but couldn't figure out how to post them.


I got a charity mailing from the Confederate Air Force recently.  (I did a post somewhere about all of the charity mail I get.  You wouldn't believe it.)  Now they're called the Commemorative Air Force, because war must be a politically correct exercise of force.  In any case, I did see these guys in person (unless this is actually different group).  For like a $20 fee, I got to go inside the B-17.  It was a cramped tin can.  When you see the size of the bullets in the defensive machine guns and look at the skin of the plane with the thickness of the soda can, you had a new appreciation for the flight crews, since the planes trying to shoot them down had the same caliber guns.  Honestly, the short, self-guided tour really brought the war home.  It was worth it.  

I don't remember if the B-29 was there or not.  It would have been interesting to see it, since it had a pressurized cabin.  Then again, you wouldn't have had the cool leather jackets that the B-17 guys had to wear to keep out the cold.   

       

On to the random.  I was at Barnes & Noble a few months ago and saw this stack of Lego Star Wars posters at the counter when I was making a purchase.  The clerk immediately offered me one as I was looking over her shoulder at them.  She didn't explain why they were there.  I have no idea.  The poster itself was two-sided and printed on very thick paper.  It was a very nice giveaway.  Unfortunately by the time I got it home, I remembered I wasn't ten years old.  I did used to have a couple of sets, including that Snowspeeder.  I offered the poster up to a Star Wars fan at work, who took it gladly.
