The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 20

This lady kissed Elvis as a child.

Priscilla's ex-boyfriend wrote a tell-all book about her.

Another "Elvis is alive" story.  The proof at the end is that there is no Elvis stamp . . . at the time of this article.

A few random stories.  A couple are about refunds for Elvis' final tour, which never happened.  Some fans preferred to keep their tickets instead.

At the top, the paper asks for fans who went to a Little Rock, Arkansas Elvis concert to share their stories.  At the bottom, some scumbuddy stole a women's Elvis LP's.  At least he left her all of her Elvis singles.

Here's an interview with a hotel manager who once hosted Elvis.  The article is cutoff at the bottom.  There probably wasn't any more to the Elvis story.

Lastly, Elvis fans don't want to hear about his faults.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 19

I think this is an ad from Reader's Digest.  It must be pretty old, because the offer is only available in LP and cassette.

It's grab bag here with a posthumous LP review, an article about a possible Elvis love child, and an announcement about Priscilla having another child at 42.

Funny commentary.  It starts by mentioning that the Elvis estate sold pieces of its original wooden fence.

Story about Bruce Springsteen visiting Graceland.

Barbara Stanwyck had starred in a movie with Elvis, which is mentioned here.

Here's more about the Elvis love child.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 18

I think grandma sent this clipping.  Unfortunately, it's a bit chopped up and didn't fit in one piece on the scanner.

Some articles about Lisa Marie, including her marriage.

And here's an article about her third marriage to Nicolas Cage.  Here's a hint: it didn't last either.

Here's a snippet about Lisa having a baby.

A couple little articles about other Rock and Rollers inspired by Elvis.

Commentary about a little girl liking Elvis.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 17

This is a great find: a TV Guide tribute to Elvis.

Apparently, it came with a music CD or an Internet code to download it.  Disturbing warning to not play the CD in a car stereo though.

This issue was promoting an Elvis mini-series.

And there was also an Elvis documentary on TV that week as well.

Priscilla doesn't think any Elvis impersonator is close to the real thing.  There's also a promotion about an Elvis Broadway show.

Elvis has been on the cover previously.  Strange that they didn't do one for the '68 Comeback Special.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 16

Here was my contribution to the Elvis collection.  I used to collect comic strips out of the paper.  (Gosh, I miss those Prince Valiant strips.)  First up is Drabble doing an Elvis impersonator week.  This was a one of my favorite daily comics.  I'm sorry it never really hit big.

The rest of these strips follow on the Elvis is Still Alive story/running gag.  It was a simpler time when this story dominated 90's news.  Ah, our modern media would never flog such an obviously false story.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 15

This set of articles starts off with a story about the new at the time, Elvis car museum.  You'd think they would have set that up to begin with at Graceland given the King's famous preoccupation with autos and cycles.  There's also a couple of little articles about Elvis' birthday.

Here's a couple more birthday articles.  I think that's grandma's handwriting at the top.

Here's a question-and-answer about a Kansas City Elvis festival.  The Flying Elvi will be dropping in.  There's also an article about a new Elvis collection.  Thank goodness new technology allows for endless repackaging of old media.

Small article at the bottom says that RCA has released Elvis' first single, which he made for his mom non-professionally.  The original disc was thought to be lost.

A little trivia in the inset article.  Whitney Houston's mom was one of Elvis' backup singers.

Nice cover picture on the newspaper TV guide.  Nice deal on pizza there, too.  I think I might have had them a couple of times.

There's an Elvis seminar at the University of Mississippi and a Graceland replica dollhouse in Virginia.  Pity there's no picture with the article.  The owner has Elvis dolls posed with it.

The Elvis Collection: Newspaper Clips 14

Oops.  I just found some draft posts that I'd done a while back and hadn't scheduled.  So, were' doing some of these out of order here (not that that really mattered).  These are some more Elvis merchandise ads from newspaper tabloids.  Collector plates are a big deal.  They're also fragile and have to be displayed upright, so I'm staying away from them.

Like I said before, the stamp merchandising was huge.

Here's a recipe for an Elvis cake.  Let me know how it is.  Also, T.S. Elliot is the #5 deceased celebrity earner in 1989?

Article about Elvis' military service.

Here's a 2003 updated list of deceased celebrity earners.  Elvis and John Lennon are still in the top 5 here.
