"Fraulein is Fraud," references a blonde, so the press hadn't noticed Priscilla yet, or he hadn't yet met her. Below that article, Elvis was up for a musical version of Billy the Kid. Much like the possibility of him playing Lil' Abner on Broadway, I think he dodged a bullet playing Billy (that might be a pun). Still, acting in front of a live audience would have helped his acting skills, though like most of his movies, Elvis still would have been breaking into song for the whole production.
