Yes, you could win a date with Elvis. This was open to guys, too (strictly platonic). You could also bring along a chaperone. Perhaps you don't trust your daughter with Elvis. Perhaps you're a mom hoping Elvis likes older women. Still, it sounds cool. You spend the day with Elvis, go to the recording studio in New York City, and go for diner and dancing.
This letter on US Army letterhead reads like a press release. I'm sure there's a story behind this, but I don't know it.
Here's Elvis called "The Cat." He was The Cat before he became The King.
Here the article writer calls Elvis' style, "commercial folk music." That's certainly the most original take I've heard on the subject. At least the rest of the article explains that statement.
