Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 21

This is final post for this sketchbook and, finally, we reveal why it's called "The Pony Book."  First is another sketch of Pernille Orum's Cowgirl.  It's the same image, but flopped and expanded.  This turned out well, because Pernille's painting is awesome.

At Zia Comics, they have a lot of statues of comic and anime characters.  I fell in love with this My Little Pony inspired statue they have in a glass case.  This is Applejack.  It wasn't that big, but I had no room for it, also it was over $100.  (It's also been sold since I saw it.)

I found images of it and other statues in the line and set about sketching them.  I showed a picture of the statue to a co-worker and then my sketch, which I was pleased with.  (The little horse actually took  me longer to draw than the girl.  Really.)  It was just a pencil sketch, because I wasn't confident about inking over it.  She urged me to ink and color it anyway.  She was right.  It turned out okay.

This led me to doing some of the other characters.  This is Princess Celestia.

This is Rainbow Dash.  I liked doing the shoes.  (The pony, again, was impossible for me.)

Lastly, here's Sunset Shimmer.  (The pony turned out a little better.)

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 20

Up first here are a couple of, frankly, obscure personalities.  That's actress Elizabeth Barondes and singer Minerva Borjas from left to right.  Minerva used to host a baby care show in the morning.  I really miss that show.

Here's a couple of model sketches.

This was a "low-effort" sketch that was done on copy paper.  I was reluctant to start my new sketchbook with a crap drawing, but was still committed to drawing everyday.

This was a model in a bowler hat that was on the British show, Gadget Man.  It was supposed to be another "low-effort" sketch.  I wasn't satisfied with the first one and drew another right after, so this ended up taking as much time as a more thoughtful drawing.  There are no shortcuts.

Here's one I do like.  This is Olivia Munn at a red carpet event.  She was wearing a black dress in the picture, but I liked it better in white.

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 19

I reviewed an Edgar Rice Burrows comic, The Land That Time Forgot.  I drew some sketches of it to get some value out of it.  Likewise, from an 80's Firestorm comic, I drew one of the villains in the lower right and in the next sketch page.

On the right are a couple of "low-effort" days sketches.  Kitty Pride on the bottom is okay, but "Dark Phoenix" on top was a mistake I should erased and started over with something else.  I did clean up the drawing a bit before taking a picture of the page, so it was worse.  On the right is a sketch that looks nothing like opera singer, Renee Fleming.  I went a little nuts on the hair.

Lastly and least-ly, we have a bad sketch of my favorite red-headed visiting softball player, Lexy Coons, from GCU.  Her and her great hair deserve a better effort.  Then there's Deren from Crossgen's Meridian.  I was probably trying to do a complex figure drawing here.  I didn't put the effort into the face though.

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 18

This is a mostly volleyball post, but there's 80's actress, Kari Michaelsen, on the left.  (I was watching Saturday the 14th at the time.)  The next four are of Shaney Lipscomb from the NM State Volleyball team.  I was so thrilled with her tossing me a ball, I was inspired to sketch her.  I'd hoped there'd be an autograph day where I could have gotten her to sign the ball and give her a sketch, but it didn't happen and now she's graduated and moved on.  None of these sketches are that great anyway.

Err . . . Here's another volleyball player who was on a (cough, cough) another team. (We'll leave it at that.)   A co-worker had a had team poster with her on it and I couldn't resist drawing her incredible, curly hair.  She just looked gorgeous.

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 17

On the left is Julie the Apprentice, Twitch chess streamer.  She's a doll and much cuter than my picture.  That's Arywn from Crossgen's Sojourn on the right.

That's a model pic on the left and another Twitch chess streamer, Nemo, on the right.  That turned out better.

On the left was definitely a "low-effort" day.  That was from the cover of a Wildcards comic.  Next to that is a sketch of Twitch streamer, Dizzykitten.  The purple outline is there because I messed up on the inking and was trying to cover it up.

And two more Twitch streamers.  That's ASMR artist, Poggledrop, on the left, and DJ Pyka in a Team Rocket costume on the right.

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 16

Here's a few sketches of Twitch streamer, DJ Pyka.  This first drawing was somewhat ambitious in the coloring.  Doing that tie dye shirt took a while.  The actual pattern was way more complex.

I like that pencil sketch of her.  I don't know why I didn't color it.  That's sketch of an Ilya Kuvshinov sketch from Imagine FX.  Judging by the terrible coloring job I did of the original black and white drawing, maybe it's a good thing I didn't color the other one.

Here's Twitch streamer, Waffles.  She generally plays piano on her stream.  These two sketches turned out pretty well.  I didn't ink and color these, because they were too delicate and I thought I'd ruin them.

Here's one of her I did ink and color.  I love her hair color.  Waffles streams after midnight and has this sexy vampire vibe.  Next to her is Arwyn from Crossgen's Sojourn.

Sketch Dump: The Pony Book 15

This first drawing is Midge from Archie Comics, based on Adam Hughes' rendering.  This is actually drawn on blank paper.  For some reason when I finished the sketchpad, I was reluctant to start using my next new sketchbook.

If you want to have some fun, look up some old Springmaid ads.  They're fun and cheeky.

The sketch on the left is a model that looked cute.  The other is some ad art from Imagine FX magazine.  That turned out better than I thought it would.

Lastly, I finally watched the four Evangelion movies on Amazon Prime.  (The first one was good, then it got weird, then really weird, but the last one ended really well.)  I fruitlessly tried to do a do sketch of Misato, but never did.  There's a pencil sketch of a villain from an old issue of Firestorm at the bottom right.
